The 25th anniversary of Rodney’s death was marked by celebrations of his life and works in New York, Washington D.C., London, England, Barbados, Guyana and Tanzania.
In 2005, following the commemorative celebrations in Guyana, the governments of Guyana and St. Vincent and the Grenadines dedicated national scholarships in his name. The Walter Rodney Memorial Park was also dedicated in Guyana at that time.
In 2007, a Youth Chapter of The Walter Rodney Foundation was formed in Barbados at the Youth Millennium Breakfast of the African Diaspora Global Conference under the stewardship of the late Ikel Tafari, Director of the Commission for Pan African Affairs.
In 2008, the Guyana government renamed the National Archives in his honor.
